“Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.” 2 Chronicles 6:40
How many times have we just wanted to be heard? To get our requests and petitions out? To be understood and impart that singular tidbit to anyone? The moments when we pray and we must catch ourselves because the prayerful petition has suddenly become so routine because we have made it so often?
This morning as I was thinking about prayer I read the Bible I was struck by the beauty of the various prayers I quickly scanned. I loved the flow of the prayer in Nehemiah 1:11 ” Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” The earnest yearning of “let your ear be attentive”, struck such a chord. Reading on I was again drawn to my favorite, David the simple shepherd boy who prayed so many beautiful prayers. Psalm 17:1 A prayer of David. Hear me, LORD, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips.”
Lord, as I continue to grow I continually desire to communicate with you in ways that do not sound trite, whining or droning.
Making His praise glorious!
