Matthew 25:44-45 (NIV)

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

With each passing year, words to songs heard as children keep resurfacing and becoming meaningful and relevant to my own life.  Life experiences cause us to understand the stories behind those songs.  Songs of overcoming, rejoicing and making a difference.   The lyrics  to this particular song caused me to search my own heart and question if my life has meaning and question, if my life is vain.

When Christ returns, I do not want to have, “I coulda, shoulda , woulda” on my lips.  It is my desire to maintain a sense of urgency so that I am able to hear the words “Well done…”

Lyrics to If I Can Help Somebody :

If I can help somebody, as I pass along,
If I can cheer somebody, with a word or song,
If I can show somebody, how they’re travelling wrong,
Then my living shall not be in vain.Chorus:
My living shall not be in vain,
Then my living shall not be in vain
If I can help somebody, as I pass along,
Then my living shall not be in vain.If I can do my duty, as a good man ought,
If I can bring back beauty, to a world up wrought,
If I can spread love’s message, as the Master taught,
Then my living shall not be in vain.

My quick search of the New International Version of the Bible revealed 27 verses that mention the word window.  Windows were for looking down from and through (Genesis 26:8) , escaping from on a scarlet rope (Joshua 2:15),  fleeing from in order to preserve life (1 Samuel 19:12) or opening after 40 days and nights of rain on the ark (Genesis 8:6).   Windows let in fresh cleansing air or  provide frames to display for our eyes the beauty of God.   Windows provide brief passing slices into our lives for others.   On this the 29th day of February, I am acutely aware that my life and how I speak, interact and behave may be the only view of God someone may see.  Today, Father I ask that you shine brightly through so only You are seen  and glorified in this day!

4 One thing I ask from the LORD,  this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD   all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the LORD  and to seek him in his temple.  Psalm 27:4 (NIV)

Yesterday evening and not for the first time I got it! I witnessed one of the reasons my husband loves Richmond! Crossing the bridge as the sun was retreating from the sky God painted it with broad strokes of fuisha, pinks and displayed on a generous blue canvas. It took my breath away, my eyes were glued and my heart full of thanks. So vivid the memory, I am still aglow and sorry the camera was not in hand. Some days it is God’s hand-painted brush strokes that remind me to appreciate each and every gift my eyes behold.

A test notification of an "update availab...

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and [a]have it abundantly. John 10:10 (NASB)

It has been well over three months or  maybe longer since I updated my Windows Phone.  Imagine my joy and surprise when I was finally able to complete that long-awaited process!  Things this contraption did that made no sense finally started working properly and um, now made sense.  Clearly, there were critical updates and patches that needed to be downloaded in order for this highly sophisticated phone to run optimally.

Before you brand me a non-geek and start petitions to push me back to the dark flip-phone ages, let me state that previously I had tried more than once to obtain the updates, yet repeatedly I was dogged update errors and failures. So in frustration, I gave up and decided as long as it rang, played a game or two and allowed me to write this blog, that was sufficient. You see, I was willing to settle for just basic operation and not everything the Windows Phone was created to do.

I have been created and empowered by God to be even more incredible than any old phone. Yet because of crowd anxiety, doubts,  the painful pulling and stretching caused by growing pains, deeply etched scars and scar tissue of heartaches and breaks, (i.e. Update and patch errors) I opted out of critical life patches and updates.   Missing these updates caused me at times to accept far less than the abundance of what God had planned for me.  Going into this day I thank God for the ongoing critical updates in His Word that will allow me to live life, fully and abundantly as He perfectly designed.
