Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
I was thinking about going out into the yard to pick up sticks, twigs that really are no more than kindling. Those who know or believed that I was more “city” girl than country/yard girl can definitely insert a giggle here! Watching the wind from the window, I knew that those twigs and branches were not going to remove themselves.
Standing there I was reminded of the days when it was necessary to gather wood for baths, cooking and heating. No rip-roaring fire could be produced from stacks of twigs. Larger pieces of dry logs were required to build fires that could get the job done. Small twigs are good to get things started but would not produce the fire needed to cook a meal or warm feet.
Lately it seems that I have been so busy gathering sticks that I have not properly and consistently tended my heart fire which was sputtering quietly. The Bible contains the logs of truth and power needed to keep my heart fire dancing merrily with necessary warmth and flames to encourage and uplift others. Trying to complete all tasks that I believe were necessary caused a shorting of time in Bible study, which caused those flames to flicker a little dimly, dying down, just a little.
Today I thank God for being the provider of the ever-burning log in my life, for always being there to tend my sparks, tossing on an extra log instead of kindling, especially in those moments when I distractedly glance away.
Making His praise glorious!
